1. What is YouMakeIt and how does it work?

YouMakeIt is a platform that connects Product designers with Makers and allows them to Connect, Collaborate and Create new product ideas. You can find more information on the ‘About Us’ page.

2. What can I gain from joining YMI?

Product Designers:

  • Showcase your profile, your proficiencies, your projects, your recommendations on a platform where Product Designers matter
  • Find makers, Designer/Makers and Product Designers with ease though our natural language search tools using key tags
  • Connect with the person best suited to help bring your product idea to life
  • Collaborate with experienced makers to help refine your design and get it manufacture ready
  • Have your concept become a reality with makers transforming your concept design into physical product

Makers:

  • Gain exposure
  • Product Designer will provide a steady and exciting source of work
  • Collaboration tools will allow you to inform designers faster on ways to get their designs maker ready limiting the usual hours of design iterations
  • Designers could work for you to develop designs for commercially viable products to be made with your resources that may not be as active
  • Get paid using our escrow tool we hold funds and release directly to you on completion of each stage

4. Is YMI free to use? Are there any monthly/yearly fees to pay?

YMI is free to join, no subscription fees, we have a 10% commission on work completed.

5. Can I join YMI from anywhere in the world?

YMI will just be available in the UK only for near future

Account

1. Is YMI for everyone? What are the eligibility criteria to create an account on YMI?

In this initial phase of launch we're working with qualified or product designers in their final year and makers that have a registered business.  

2. How can I register on YMI?

Simply fill out the Sign-Up form with your information. We take the privacy of our community very seriously and want to ensure that only verified makers/designers have access to the information on the platform. As a result, before adding you to our system, we'll run a quick check.

3. Can I create multiple accounts?

You can only create one account that is appropriate to the type of activity you want to undertake on the platform, whether it is design, production, or both.

4. How long will it take to have the account activated by the admin?

Admin response should be received in no more than 72h from registration. Although it is very unlikely that registration would be denied, please keep in mind that we reserve the right to select designers/makers. 

5. How can I close my account?

To close your account, please see the ‘Delete profile’ option on the ‘Edit profile’ page.

6. I don't remember my username. What should I do?

To recover your username, please contact us at [email protected].

7. I do not remember my password. How can I log into my account?

To recover your password, please use the ‘Forgot Password’ function on the Log in page. You will receive an email with instructions on how to change your password.

8. How can I change my password?

To change your password, please see the ‘Account Settings’ after logging in on the platform.

9. How can I verify my email address?

Once you register on the platform, you’ll find the option to verify your email address by accessing the ‘My Profile’ section.

10. Should I upload a profile picture?

A profile photo is mandatory to enable connecting and collaborating with other makers/designers seamless.

11. Can I upload gifs on the project photos?

Even though the platform doesn’t support gifs, you may still upload pictures and videos. 

12. How can I change the image of a project on my profile?

Select the project on your profile you want to modify and choose the ‘Change image’ option. You will be able to upload a different picture.

13. How do I link my portfolio?

Upload photos and videos of your previous and current projects, as well as new project ideas, to display your portfolio. Each one should be uploaded individually.

Privacy

1. Who can see my profile?

Only YMI members that are granted admin approval can see other makers/designers on the platform.

2. Who can see my projects?

Visitors can see a preview of all the projects that have been uploaded to the platform. The projects created with makers/designers are private and only the collaborators have access to them.

3. Can I trust the makers/designers on the platform?

We want to make sure the platform is a secure environment for collaborating and innovation, so we've taken steps to address these concerns, such as validating all users before providing admin approval.

Projects

1. How do I launch a project?

Select the 'Launch a project' option once logged in, fill in the project details, and connect with the platform's numerous makers/designers.

2. Can I collaborate without launching a project?

Without starting a project, you can interact and chat with makers/designers. Although you can begin a project without first launching it, we recommend that you follow the established path for a better record of your project's milestones and progress.

3. What is ‘Raise a job request’?

By submitting a job request, you can begin working on a project with a maker or designer. When you choose this option, you'll be prompted to provide project information such as the name, description, pricing, work type, and deadline.

4. Can I delete the request after claiming it?

Once the job request is accepted, the project can’t be edited, cancelled, or deleted.

5. Can I track the progress of my work/order?

All projects' progress, including milestones and payments, may be found on the 'My Projects' tab.

6. Can I make changes to a project once the job is raised?

After a job has been raised, it can be changed at any moment before it is accepted.

7. Can I delete projects?

Projects can't be deleted, and they're all listed in the 'My Projects' section.

Collaborating

1. How do I contact makers/designers?

You can reach out to makers and designers by starting a project or looking through the maker and designer sections. There is no limit to the number of makers/designers you can contact and collaborate with.

2. Can I develop the same project with multiple makers simultaneously?

Multiple makers can work on the same project at the same time. You can return to the 'continue existing' function after launching a new project to contact other makers for the same project.

3. How do I know if a maker/designer is online?

A green dot next to a maker's or designer's name will help you recognize members who are active on the platform when messaging them.

4. How do the images for each project get stored? Where can I find them?

All images for your projects can be found in the specific conversation history.

Orders

1. Can YMI help me sell my products once they’re finished?

During the next phase of YMI, we plan to expand the gallery so that products can be displayed to specifically selected audiences, who can subsequently pre-order the product based on whether production has been validated.

2. How do I track the order after a maker sends it?

You'll still have access to the platform's messaging feature when the project is finished. You can get in touch with the makers and check on the status of your order using the agreed-upon delivery service.

3. I still haven’t received my order. What can I do?

When you don't receive your order on time, it's a good idea to double-check with the maker and the delivery provider. If you continue to have issues, please contact us at [email protected].

4. Can I return an order if it is not what I expected?

The project's progress should be monitored on a regular basis, and collaborators should stay in touch throughout the process. It is important that you check and regularly review that the maker is producing what was requested since it is your responsibility to approve each stage. If the result does not match the agreed-upon plan, you can rise a dispute, and YMI will investigate further and try to assist you.

Messages

1. How does sketching work?

Sketching includes a tool that allows you to present a maker a basic sketch idea with all its components and dimensions, so the maker can annotate directly onto the sketch and determine whether it is suitable for manufacturing. If it isn't suitable, the maker should send you update requests so that you can improve your design and submit them an updated version of the design concept. You can submit a 'Raise job request' once all collaborators have agreed on the changes.

2. How do I know if my message has been read by the receiver?

A distinctive symbol appears on every read message.

3. Can I delete a message/entire chat history?

We opted to limit this function to ensure that all communications are available to collaborators when working on a project and that no additional edits that have not been agreed upon are added to the project.

4. Who else can see my messages other than the intended receiver?

You and the specific collaborator are the only ones who have access to your communications.

5. My messages are not getting through. What can I do?

Email Notifications

1. Why do I receive email notifications from YMI?

You will be automatically registered to our email list once you register on the platform and all platform updates and communications will be delivered to your inbox via email.

2. I am not getting email notifications. What might be wrong?

Please check that you haven't opted out of our mailing list. Please contact us at [email protected] if the problem continues.

3. I do not want to receive email notifications. How to unsubscribe?

The 'Your Profile' section allows you to manage your email subscription. However, we recommend that you keep subscribed to our mailing listin order to receive all platform updates.

Wallet

1. Is it mandatory to add funds to the YMI wallet?

Your YMI wallet can be topped up at any time. You will need funds to complete your payments.

2. How can I add funds to my YMI wallet?

To add funds to your wallet, enter the right amount and select the payment option. Please refer to the 'Transactions History' area to check the card balance using PayPal.

3. Can I withdraw funds from my YMI wallet?

It is possible to withdraw funds from your wallet. In order for the transaction to take place, you will need to link an account. The entire process could take up to 14 days.

4. Do I get any invoices for transactions done on YMI?

YMI will send invoices for each transaction.

5. Does YMI charge fees for every transaction?

YMI charges 10% for each designer to maker and maker to designer commission.

Security

1. Is my data secured?

Data on the platform is secured, but please use a strong, unique password and never share it and don’t let another person use your account.

2. Who can access my data on YMI?

Admin has access to all data on the platform.

3. How can I protect my designs? /Are my designs protected?

Your designs are protected, but please check our Terms and Conditions and Infringement Policy for more details.

4. What can I do if someone wants to copy a design?

If this happens, please let us know as soon as possible at [email protected].
